Kaitlynn MacVey-Crawford
Head Coach
Kaitie MacVey-Crawford is the Head Coach at the Saint John Skating Club, where she brings over 20 years of coaching experience and a lifetime of love for the sport to the ice. Known for her leadership, creativity, and dedication to her skaters, Kaitie plays an instrumental role in shaping the next generation of athletes in Saint John.
Kaitie began skating at just 2 years old and officially joined CanSkate at age 5 with her first club in Hampton. At age 9, she transitioned to the Saint John Skating Club, continuing a long and proud family tradition as her Great Grandfather founded the Saint John Skating Club as it is known today, making Kaitie a fourth-generation member of its skating legacy. She began coaching with the club at age 17 and has been dedicated to helping skaters grow in both skill and confidence ever since.
Though Kaitie loves all aspects of skating, synchronized skating holds a special place in her heart. She’s drawn to the unique combination of teamwork, artistry, and precision that synchro demands. The electric atmosphere and energy of a synchro competition never fails to make her smile. Her involvement in the discipline also extends off the ice, as she serves as a section-level Technical Specialist for synchronized skating, further deepening her involvement in the sport she loves.
Throughout her coaching career, Kaitie has achieved many professional milestones. She was accepted into and completed Skate Canada’s CanSkate University, an advanced training program designed to elevate the delivery of the CanSkate program across the country. Her commitment to excellence also led the Saint John Skating Club to be selected as one of just ten clubs in Canada chosen to test and pilot the new CanSkate program, playing a key role in helping to shape its development nationally. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Kaitie received Skate New Brunswick’s Volunteer Coach of the Year Award, an honor that reflects both her dedication to the sport and the positive impact she’s made within her community.
Kaitie is Provincial Certified and National In-Training for figure skating and also holds certifications in PowerSkate and Special Olympics. Her deep knowledge, combined with her passion for teaching, creates a positive and encouraging environment for all skaters, from beginners to advanced athletes.
Beyond the rink, Kaitie works full-time as a school teacher, where her experience as an educator enhances her coaching style, strengthens her ability to connect with skaters, and helps her tailor instruction to individual learning styles. Her ability to think outside the box, communicate clearly, and foster growth in young people translates seamlessly from the classroom to the ice. Whether she’s teaching a student to read or helping a skater land a new jump, Kaitie brings the same level of care, patience, and enthusiasm to everything she does.
As a coach, Kaitie finds the most joy in seeing her skaters master new skills and grow more confident with every stride. She’s especially proud when former students return to skating as adults, reconnecting with the joy and confidence they once felt on the ice under her guidance. One of her most memorable coaching moments was watching her skaters earn a bronze medal at the National StarSkate Championships, a proud achievement shared by coach and athletes alike.
In addition to skating, Kaitie has a strong background in performing arts—she was a competitive Highland dancer for 13 years, an experience that contributed to her sense of rhythm, performance quality, and appreciation for discipline in sport.
Kaitie’s coaching philosophy is simple but powerful, reflecting her belief in the value of persistence and passion:
“Keep moving forward. Passion doesn’t require talent.”
Whether she’s teaching a beginner their first glides or guiding a team through a national competition, Kaitie leads with heart, creativity, and a lifelong love of skating—one she continues to share with every skater she coaches.
